About

That's Actually Hilarious is a line from Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World that is said by Chris Evans while playing the character Lucas Lee. In August 2022 the line became used as an audio trend on Tiktok, with it being used with various different meanings.

Origin

The scene that the line comes from is when Scott is going with Ramona to a movie shoot. While there, the star of the shoot ends up being Lucas Lee, the second evil-ex boyfriend, prompting a fight with Scott. While fighting his stunt double team, Chris Evan's character Lucas Lee walks away and checks his phone, seeing a hilarious text, prompting the line. The scene in it's entirety was uploaded to YouTube by the official Universal Pictures[1] channel on July 15th, 2020, where it gained over 1.1 million views in two years (shown below).

The snippet of the scene was taken and uploaded to Tiktok by the user Socialist_Sigma[2] on August 15th, with a caption placed over it about dudes who call themselves high value, quickly gaining over 105,000 likes in three weeks (shown below) and creating the audio sample that would be used over 22,000 times.

Spread

The audio sample quickly took root in Tiktok, with it only taking 10 days for a video using it to get over 1 million likes. This would be the Tiktok posted by Ben Robinson[3] on August 25th, 2022, keeping the original spirit of the audio sample with a friend sending him a post from someone that they've designated as a comedic relief character, essentially a lolcow on a smaller scale, earning over 1.5 million likes in two weeks (shown below).

On September 1st, the Tiktoker aburntbiscuit[4] would upload a Tiktok using the audio sample that had an altered meaning from the original, with it not being about being sent something funny, but having their neighbor mess with their welcome sign, earning over 1.2 million likes in six days (shown below).
