Origin and Significance:

Valentine’s Day traces its roots back to ancient Rome with the festival of Lupercalia, celebrated from February 13 to 15. This pagan festival involved a unique lottery that would pair men and women together, often leading to marriage and rituals that aimed at fertility and warding off evil spirits.

However, the transition from Lupercalia to Valentine’s Day as we know it is credited to the Christian martyr, Saint Valentine. While several legends surround Saint Valentine. His secret marriages for young lovers earned him martyrdom and sainthood, with his feast day set on February 14, gradually intertwining with the concept of romantic love.

Festive offer

The connection between Saint Valentine and the contemporary celebration of love was further cemented by Geoffrey Chaucer’s 1381 poem. This work by the medieval writer is often cited by scholars as marking the beginning of the association of Valentine’s Day with romantic love, anchoring the tradition in the annals of history.

Hence, Valentine’s Day is now considered as an occasion to celebrate all beautiful human relationships. The festival has come to be known as the day to celebrate love in all forms.
