The music of the ancient world was designed to correspond with the cycles of the stars in the heavens or the so called "music of the spheres" based on the Hermetic principle of "as above, so below".
The image below, from ancient Greece, shows correspondances of western diatonic musical modes, or moods, with planetary energies and the seven muses, or the seven sisters, daughters of Apollo.
A mode is essentially a geometric division of the octave, with diatonic (7 notes) hexatonic (6 notes) and pentatonic (5 notes) scales being most common.
Pentatonic scales are effective for simple jamming, where there can be 'no wrong notes' as it were, good for dance and chill/meditative music. More complex or irregular scales such as Blues, can providing more emotional sophistication in melodies.
In the second part of the stream I get into snare drum design, building percussion instruments and textured bass patches, as well as some nifty wavetable tricks with Serum.
Check it out and let me know what you think.
Note: I am aware of the large volume dynamic between the voice mic and the music from Ableton, and will get that levelled out for next time :)
Every time I do this I get more ideas for how to do it better.
Onward and upward ...
