Sing a Song! It’s National Music Therapy Day

As Spring peeks its head around the corner, March 1st welcomes it with open arms. I don’t know about you, but Spring makes me want to sing! And boy, are we in luck. March 1st is the United States’ National Day of Music Therapy. What a beautiful thing to celebrate!

As long as humans have walked the earth, we have made music. While the simple fun of music is clear to anyone who can hear or feel it, there is a hidden magic – a science even – to experiencing music. For over a century, a legitimate field of research has emerged to study the countless benefits of using music in the healing process.

But beyond the hard science of how music can literally rebuild parts of your brain, decrease stress, and improve your general physical health, the soft science of a smile shines. At Hasbro Children’s Hospital, our dedicated and passionate team knows this firsthand. Our Healing Arts Program focuses on the creative expression of the patient, providing them the space to explore themselves in a safe and thoughtful way.

This team of people does incredible work, bringing laughter and play back to children whose lives have been put on hold. Join me today, and every day, in celebrating the people who dedicate their lives to the healing of children’s spirits and minds. To all the music therapists out there – Thank You.
