About Variegated Monstera

Monstera deliciosa is a species of flowering plant native to the tropical rainforests of southern Mexico down to Colombia. Both the root and leaf have a long history of use in traditional medicine. In Mexico, a leaf or root infusion is taken daily to relieve arthritis. In Martinique, the root is used in remedies for snakebites. 🤒 The holes in Monstera leaves let water drip close to the roots, and they absorb the scattered beams of sunlight that make it down through the forest canopy. Their fruit also tastes like a mix of pineapple and banana! 🍍🍌

🪴 Soil

Variegated Monstera does best in well-draining soil. A good soil will contain lots of organic matter such as coco coir as well as perlite or vermiculite to help with drainage. Adding a handful of perlite to regular store-bought potting soil should do the trick!

💩 Fertilizer

Variegated Monstera should be repotted after it doubles in size or once a year, whichever comes first. Fresh potting soil has all the nutrients your plant needs, so as long as it’s refreshed yearly, you shouldn’t need to use fertilizer. Remember, plants get their energy from sunlight, not fertilizer!

❄️ Dormancy

It’s common for Variegated Monstera to go dormant in the wintertime and you may notice their growth slow down. Waterings should be spaced out more during this time.

🌎 Native Region

Variegated Monstera is native to Central America.

🧐 Troubleshooting

When troubleshooting a sad-looking houseplant, start by checking for signs of distress in its leaves, such as yellowing, browning, or drooping, which can indicate overwatering or nutrient deficiencies.

Inspect the soil moisture; too dry or too wet soil can cause problems.

Ensure the plant is getting the right amount of light, as too much or too little can stress it.

Finally, consider environmental factors like temperature and humidity, and adjust care routines accordingly to revive your plant.

Beautiful plant! A bit of a slower grower than regular monstera, but I’ve not found any other difficulties growing it

The model, the legend, the icon. Really a beautiful plant. It’s relatively easy to care for. It’s a fighter and I personally think it’s tough to kill but the white parts like to turn brown.

This little chunk has grown a root and a sprout super fast, I think the keiki paste helped it along. Can’t wait to post a picture of an actual leaf soon

I find it nearly impossible to kill, even if I neglect it, however the white parts brown easily, so I recommend giving it more sun and watering with distilled water! Overall good plant, but I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on it 💕
