Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has, on Saturday, taken aim at Barcelona once more.
This comes amid the latest chapter of the ‘Negreira case’, which has of course dominated the Spanish football headlines since all the way back in March.
Barca, for their part, have maintained their innocence throughout, adamant that they have not broken any rules.
And yet, the Blaugrana have been formally charged by prosecutors, after being found guilty of paying out millions of euros to the vice-president of Spanish football’s refereeing committee, José María Enriquez Negreira.
No conclusion to the case appears to be in sight, but one individual who evidently feels as though the board at Camp Nou should pay for their transgressions comes in the form of the aforementioned Florentino Pérez.
Speaking at Real Madrid’s annual general assembly on Saturday, club chief Pérez made use of the opportunity to fire yet another shot at Los Blancos’ Clasico rivals, accusing Barcelona of ‘damaging the image of Spanish football’.
“We must be respectful of the justice system,“ Pérez began, in quotes sourced by Marca. “It is not normal for a football club to have paid €8m for 20 years to the Vice President of the Referee’s Committee. We were admitted as an injured party. It is a case of enormous gravity and is damaging the image of Spanish football.”
