Durham’s Saltbox Seafood Joint to Close Original Location

Since 2012, Durham’s Saltbox Seafood Joint has been a beacon for oysters, shrimp, catfish, grouper, red drum, and more, but now chef/owner Ricky Moore must say goodbye to his original Old Five Points location. Moore’s lease is up at 608 North Mangum Street, but he will continue operations out of his second location at 2637 Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard.

To commemorate the final service in Five Points, on Sunday, August 22, Moore and his crew will offer shrimp burgers. Devotees are encouraged to go early to grab a place in line.

Moore says that he is proud of what he was able to accomplish out of the 205-square-feet shack — folks from near and far gladly lined up for sandwiches and plates of fresh catches from the North Carolina coast.

After August 22, fans can still find the famous fried flounder, grouper bites, Hush Honeys, and more at the Rockwood location.
