Wearable Summer Makeup Trends

We believe in celebrating our age. This brings us to today’s topic: wearable summer makeup trends. If you’ve learned nothing else from Erin, it’s that fashion and beauty are a state of mind. Do what makes you happy. But there’s no denying that we should approach some of today’s trends with a sophisticated twist. With warmer days around the corner, this summer’s vibe is all about pastels, bright colors and fun! So, whether you’ll be putting on a full face for a night out, or an easy look for fun in the sun, I’ve got 5 hot (pun intended) wearable summer makeup trends that aren’t over the top for women over 40.

#1) Bright Blush
Statement blush is back and better than ever. Bright blush, and over-blushing, are one of this season’s newest makeup trends. Brighter color choices like bold peach, strawberry pink, and golden orange are taking center stage at the moment. But how do you take this celebrity makeup trend and make it wearable for women 40+? The key to pulling off this look is to use less product on your brush. Don’t let the shade scare you. By working in a small amount of blush, you can create a beautiful, soft wash of color. Apply first to the apple of your cheek and pull back into the temple for a gradient, lifting effect.

#2) Glossy Lips
Pucker up this summer with shiny, glossy lips. You can rock this makeup trend with a nude lip, which never goes out of style. If you’re looking for a bit more color, the juicy, hydrated glass-looking lip is everywhere these days. Use a high-shine gloss, colored balm, or one of the many moisturizing lip oils that have come out this year. It’s a welcome change from the matte lip that isn’t as forgiving on mature mouths. This is really one of the easiest and most wearable summer makeup trends to try.

#3) Pastel Eyeshadow
Before you write this trend off as a 60s revival, this year’s pastel trend is actually quite modern and playful. Maybe we all have a new-found appreciation for enjoying being social again, and this color trend reflects that. The popular hues are lilac, mint, periwinkle and rose, all of which instantly brighten up your summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if this trend keeps going all the way through the fall. Pair it with a neutral glossy lip and you’re on point!

#4) Colored Eyeliner
If bright eyeshadow is not really your thing, but you still want to get in on the fun, opt for colored eyeliner along your lower lashes. We’re not talking full-blown 80s-style blue eyeliner. There is a way to make this trend 100% wearable at any age! Just swipe a deep blue or emerald green under your bottom lashes to give your look a ton of personality. The trick for mastering this trend is to keep your top lash line neutral.

#5) Fluffy Brows
Beyond the bright blush trend, it’s the season of accentuating your favorite features. Full and fluffy brows are still going strong. To ease into highlighting your brows, use a brow pomade or tinted brow gel. Try a lighter hand when applying at first, and then work up to applying more if needed. The right product makes a huge difference.
