See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

magua-vida asked:

What do you think would happen if they meet their real-life author counterparts?

If they just passed each other in the street I don’t think the authors and BSD characters would even recognize each other, but if they were to meet…

Dazai meets Dazai: Dazai-sensei would probably be conflicted, like he usually is. BSD Dazai would be sizing up Dazai-sensei The two wouldn’t talk about anything serious. Instead they would discuss things like the joys of drinking, writing, what society means, the antonym of the word “crime”, and stuff like that. I have a more detailed post about how Dazai-sensei would feel about how he is represented in BSD here.

Chuuya meets Chuuya: Chuuya-sensei used a lot of weird phrases and word as a way of trying to appear smarter than other people, and I think that would really piss BSD Chuuya off. But the two would eventually get drunk and fight each other, winning each other’s respect through their fists rather than words.

Atsushi meets Atsushi: Atsushi-sensei was a school teacher and very polite, so he would jump immediately into trying to learn about BSD Atsushi and how he became a detective. BSD Atsushi would be eager to listen to the old Confucian tales and teachings from Atsushi-sensei. They would also bond over their love of books and how reading helped them through their dark childhoods.

Akutagawa meets Akutagawa: I can see Akutagawa-sensei looking at BSD Akutagawa and thinking, “It figures that a cynical, serious author like me would produce a character like that.” But he wouldn’t mean it in a bad way! He would be fairly sarcastic and mean it more as a jab at the literary critics who labeled him as too cynical and humorless. BSD Akutagawa would probably be filled with awe and admiration that his living counterpart was the father of the Japanese short story and that he was greatly admired by Dazai-sensei. I think Akutagawa-sensei would be very awkward about being praised too much or called -sensei, but BSD Akutagawa would be awkward in his own way at first too (mostly because he is also a little self conscious about coming across as too serious). But as soon as they found the connection they have with the darker feelings and past experiences then they would be very happy to find someone who truly understand them. Neither would open up too much though. They would both prefer to speak about themselves in less direct ways and use a lot of metaphors and symbolic representations of themselves and their pasts.

Kunikida meets Kunikida: BSD Kunikida would find Kunikida-sensei’s dedication inspiring (Kunikida-sensei started a publishing company, was a writer, and was able to marry the woman he loved despite her family’s obvious opposition) and also express his how sincerely saddened he was that none of it seemed to work out well for Kunikida-sensei despite his intentions, efforts, and dedication. Kunikida-sensei would also be very impressed by BSD Kunikida’s ideals and dedication to them. I can imagine the two having a very long conversation about the role that ideals have in life and how other values and ideologies compare to ideals. Then they would show each other their notebooks! Kunikida-sensei would see the man BSD Kunikida is as a result of what his ideals focus on and the painstaking efforts he takes in recording them while BSD Kunikida would compliments Kunikida-sensei’s details, characters, poetic imagery, and romantic themes in his writing.

Ranpo meets Ranpo: Ranpo-sensei would initially have to compare BSD Ranpo to his detective character Akechi Kogoro. I have a feeling that BSD Ranpo would, in the end, still be the better detective. BSD Ranpo would be the first BSD character to recognize his real life counterpart, and know everything about him. Then the two would set to work on creating the perfect mystery novel, and they would have to invite the Edgar Allen Poe’s to be in on it. BSD Ranpo would of course show off his brilliant ability in seeing the loophole in everyone else’s mysteries while Ranpo-sensei would be so excited to meet the amazing Edgar Allen Poe who he looked up to. He translated Poe’s works into Japanese and even based his own writing style and some of his stories off of Poe’s writings.

Tanizaki meets Tanizaki: Tanizaki-sensei and BSD Tanizaki would probably begin by being very polite and talk about normal things, but they would refer to their romantic interest so much that eventually the conversation would turn to more…. private matters. Tanizaki-sensei was very open about things like his foot fetish and included a lot of references to his bedroom experiences in his novels. I think BSD Tanizaki describing what Naomi does to him would give Tanizaki-sensei ideas and vice-versa.

Kenji meets Kenji: Kenji-sensei would be so excited to hear about BSD Kenji’s hometown! He was from a wealthy family, but he related to the farmers who worked on his family’s land and really admired them! BSD Kenji would be very happy to be able to help. Then they could both go out for beef bowls!

Yosano meets Yosano: I can see these two having a drinking contest, trying to one up each other on awesome medical stuff they’ve done, and eventually just gushing over how awesome the other is and complaining about how men are such wimps. But at the same time they would always be refined, elegant, and so stunning! Yosano-sensei would share some of her favorite poems and BSD Yosano would

Fukuzawa meets Fukuzawa: First I think these two would play a game of go or sit and drink tea while getting to know each other. But very quickly they would begin discussing topics like government, education, culture, and economics. They would also discuss social issues and codes of conduct. It may sound very boring, but if you’ve read any work by Fukuzawa-sensei it is very clear that he is passionate about what he writes and is extremely intelligent, but at the same time easy to read. He tries to make it easier for the reader to understand so they don’t have to think too much to get his meaning and can spend their time really internalizing and understanding the meaning behind his words. BSD Fukuzawa is also a very passionate, intelligent man who is very dedicated and progressive. Together I think they might actually solve some of the world’s problems over tea, and given time they could probably solve all of them (except for the problem that there are not enough cute cat videos to watch).

Mori meets Mori: They are both doctors and have seen their share of the dark side of humanity (Mori-sensei was a military doctor and BSD Mori being involved in illegal activities and leading the Mafia). I don’t know if Mori-sensei would be alright at first by being portrayed as an evil, pedophile mafia leader, but BSD Mori is so much more than that. But then BSD Mori might play the part of the small town doctor who is a little flighty and anxious like he did in episode 12 with Atsushi, so Mori-sensei may never see the terrifying, strategic mind underneath. But it would eventually be the two men hanging out, looking at pictures of Elise and talking about the crazy medical procedures they’ve had to perform.

Kajii meets Kajii: To some extent I think that Kajii-sensei would look at BSD Kajii and think, “What is this monster I have created?” But after hearing BSD Kajii talk and his wacky ideas and his studies about life and death in science Kajii-sensei would put two and two together and know that BSD Kajii is very much like the characters in his stories. They would have some pretty wild conversations and talk about philosophies and ideologies that are almost too out there to believe.

Oda meets Oda: These two would hit it off so fast! Both of them would be able to enjoy their amazing wit to the fullest (BSD Oda usually kept that wit to himself but it really came out in the light novel narration). They would also love to talk about the amazing stories about the people who surround them. Oda-sensei would talk all about the lives of people and how the war changed people and BSD Oda would talk a lot about the people’s he’s come across in the mafia, the orphans, and the man who owns the curry shop. They would have to go eat all the amazing foods that Osaka is known for (curry, okonomiaki, takoyaki, etc.) I think that these two would feel like they have finally met the person who can understand and accept them outside the Dazai’s and Ango’s. And of course they would be the instigators who got all six of them to go for drinks at Lupin, but only after talking to their hearts content with each other first.

Ango meets Ango: BSD Ango would be so confused at the messy, decadent man he is supposed to be based on, but he would notice that the hairstyle, glasses, and mole are accurate. Ango-sensei I think would be a little sad that his BSD counterpart wasn’t a detective (he wrote some very famous detective novels) but would be happy to know that Ango uses his intellect and skills as a double agent and to save lives very much like his detective hero. Then Ango-sensei would have to get BSD Ango to go drink at the bar and they could complain about all the things that are unfair in their lives.

Natsume Souseki meets Natsume Souseki: Honestly these two are so brilliant and amazing I’m sure they’d both look at each other and think, “Yes, this handsome man is very much like myself.” Then I think they would talk about how wonderful cats are and discuss very complex, deep literature and such.

Katai meets Katai: BSD Katai would be traumatized by Katai-sensei trying to get him to go out of his apartment for drinks or hitting on girls! Katai-sensei would think BSD Katai was a stick in the mud like Kunikida-sensei. In the end I think BSD Katai would find a way to get drinks and food to his apartment and the two would sit and talk about their mutual interests (Yoshiko and beautiful women they admire from afar, the injustices of society, what a good friend Kunikida is…)

And those are all the authors I have read. These are all my quick thoughts about them, so they might not be as accurate as someone who has studied some of these authors more in depth. I hope you enjoyed reading them though! I realized while writing them that I imagined them all sitting down at a cafe, bar, or restaurant to talk.
