MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's golf team wrapped up day one at the Bethel 2023 Minnesota Golf Classic resting in 15th place. The Pointers recorded a day one score of 313 and currently sit 25 shots over par.

Top UWSP Individual: Connor Schaefer (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville) led the Pointers after shooting a 75 on the day, slotting himself tied for 50th after day one. Schaefer currently sits three shots over par with 11 other golfers including three golfers from Division I institutions Iowa State, Marquette and Rutgers who entered as individuals.
Notables: Ethan Mehlberg (Junction City, Wis./Wisconsin Valley Lutheran) wrapped up day one with a 77 to finish tied for 70th (+5). Josh Brogren (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) followed up Mehlberg finishing day one tied for 94th as he sits eight shots over par after shooting an 80 on the day. Ethan Roehm (Ironwood, Mich./Luther L. Wright) and Joe Warpechowski (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) both slot in tied for 99th to round out the Pointers golfers.

Tournament Highlights
Top Team: Host Bethel sits in first place after day one as they had three golfers finish within the top 20 intermixed with Division I participants. They shot a collective 287 on the day.
Top Individual: Max Jelinek (Kansas) and Craig Long II (Northern Illinois) currently lead the field after finishing day one tied. They both shot six under par on the day. From the Division III teams, Cam Longie of Gustavus Adolphus finished day one tied for 10th place after shooting a 70 (-2) on the day.
