Today I’m presenting you with a cactus that really knows little about. It is the Cereus peruvianus var. monstruosus. It is native to South America and can be known by the common names of monstrous cactus or mountain cactus of Montserrat, which the latter is like I have always known. It is sometimes confused with the Cereus repandus, but both in size, shape and development, it is considered cactus of different classes. It can reach 10 meters if it is in favorable conditions.

It is based on a main trunk where branches that give it a special appearance come from the base, and because of these formations it is because it is called the mountain of Montserrat, because the profile and form resemble these mountains. Its primary color is dark green, but it may also have blue green.

He likes the direct sun very much, and if he’s put in a place where he’s got good lighting and has water, it’s the perfect mix for him to live many years. It must be irrigated moderately in summer by letting the substrate dry, once every fortnight it is sufficient. And in winter, when the temperatures are less than six or seven degrees, you have to stop giving water. Re-water when temperatures exceed these values.

The flowers are white, with the center pink and only open at night and last at most a couple of days open, which is a pity if you are not alert.
