19-year-old named new Miss Polonia USA
AND THE WINNER IS ... Nineteen-year-old Paulina Kowalczyk was named the 2012 Miss Polonia USA. She is currently a freshman at Wayne State University in Detroit. She has studied Polish dance for the past 15 years and traveled to Poland over the summer to participate in the 15th World Festival of Polish Folk Dance in Rzeszow, Poland.
Brooklyn, N.Y. - Paulina Kowalczyk is the new Miss Polonia USA-2012 after the finals competition in Brooklyn recently. With a full audience at the Polski Dom Narodowy-Polish National Home, Kowalczyk, 19, won the title representing Michigan. She is currently a freshman at Wayne State University in Detroit.
The last round had 10 finalists with three judged choreographed components. During her on stage interview question, she was asked, “What place would you like to visit and travel to in the whole world and why?” She said with a pause, “Why Poland, wouldn’t everyone?” The response broke-up the crowd with laughter and bonded her with the spectators and emcee.

Kowalczyk has studied Polish dance for the last 15 years. She has been a longtime performer with two troupes in the Detroit area, the PNA-Polonie Dance and Song Ensemble and the PRCUA Wieliczka Dancers.
She participated in the 15th World Festival of Polish Folk Dance in Rzeszow, Poland this past summer and performed in Krakow. The dance tutorial at the festival is also credited toward a certification of Polish Dance Choreography – Studium Chreograficzne.
“It was my first time going to Poland and I met family and there is so much more to discover, I can’t wait to go back,” said Kowalczyk.
She received a scholarship stipend and the winner’s tiara as part of her prize package.
