Miss Polonia to represent Poland at Miss World Pageant
Karolina Bielawska, who was Miss Polonia in 2019, will be one of 116 contestants vying for the Miss World title in San Juan, Puerto Rico Dec. 16, 2021. A stunning, 22-year-old blonde, Karolina has worked as a model and is currently studying management in English at Łódź Technological University.
During their presentation, each contestant must present their country’s national dance in regional attire. Karolina will dance the oberek in a colorful Łowicz costume. The attire weighs 33 pounds, since it includes authentic, thick, home-spun woolens rather than flimsy, light-weight synthetics. The first Miss Polonia Pageant was held in 1927. The word ”Polonia” here does not refer to Polish communities abroad but is the name of Poland in Latin, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, Basque Breton and Catalan. In French, it pronounced almost identically but is spelled Pologne.
