Prostrate mats of narrow glossy-green leaves above which arise stems to 5-10cm or more, bearing solitary pink to carmine flowers 2.5-4cm across, with a central pattern of dark dots. Native to limestone rocks and screes in the Romanian Carpathians. It is not easy to grow, requiring a cool root run and a rich, gritty soil.
